Rotarian Florence Northway joined Lakewood Rotary on June 5, 2003 at age 83. Age 83 is an age when most members are thinking about taking it easy or worried about their health. Not our Florence. She attends regularly and has participated in two Matching Grants and many smaller projects.

In 2008, Florence traveled to Puerto Vallarta with Lakewood Rotarian, Lou Hassoun, where they visited three clubs to explore the possibility of finding a Matching Grant project. They choose Club Pitillal to purchase exercise and physical therapy equipment for a handicapped children school. After the purchased equipment was installed, they returned to Puerto Vallarta to see the children using the equipment.

When it is her turn to do the invocation, she frequently recites a timely poem from memory. Outside Rotary, she plays duplicate bridge twice a week, and is mighty good at it, according to a fellow Rotarian who often finds himself as her opponent. While she no longer drives, she makes good use of Uber and Lyft.   She retired from teaching English as a second language at Red Rocks Community College, where she often had a dozen different languages spoken by her students.

What an inspiration she is to us all!
